My venture into the Blue Zones, home to many people who live for over 100 years, has highlighted nine essential habits for achieving a long, fulfilling life.
Some of them are simple to understand, and others are counterintuitive. The good news is, all of them are easy to implement in your own life:
- Routine Physical Movement: These long-lived individuals blend physical activities like strolling or gardening seamlessly into their daily lives, avoiding formal exercise regimes.
- Profound Purpose in Life: It’s common for the elderly in these areas to have a strong life purpose, known as “ikigai” or “plan de vida,” giving them joy and motivation each day.
- Effective Stress Mitigation: Facing daily stressors, these aged individuals have developed a variety of strategies to handle stress, aware of its negative impact on lifespan.
